Theatre Albany kicks off the 2008-2009 Season with a sure-fire crowd pleaser!

It’s 1950-something and THE TAFFETAS (Kaye, Peggy, Cheryl and Donna), four singing sisters from Muncie, Indiana are making their national television singing debut.  “Spotlight on Music,” a fictitious weekly 1950s television show on the real-life Dumont Television Network, sets the framework for an evening of some of the greatest hits of the 1950s.  A tribute to the girl groups of the 1950s, THE TAFFEETAS pay tribute to the sounds of the McGuire Sisters, The Fontane Sisters and The Chordettes.

Songs include “Mr. Sandman,” “I’m Sorry,” “Smile,” “ You Belong to Me,” “Allegheny Moon,” “Old Cape Cod,” “Around the World,” “Love Letters in the Sand,” “Sincerely,” “Johnny Angel,” and many more!  Directed and Choreographed by Dotty Davis and featuring Demi Davis, Amanda Latona, Suzanne Unger and Jennifer Varnadoe.

History of Theatre Albany

Among the pecan groves and cotton fields of southwest Georgia, live theatre flourishes under the banner of Theatre Albany. This award-winning* organization has offered outstanding performances since its inception in 1932. Theatre Albany is the oldest and one of the most highly regarded cultural organizations in the city of Albany.

After more than 30 years occupying several downtown sites, Theatre Albany acquired the home of Captain John A. Davis in 1964 for its permanent residence. This remarkable white columned antebellum treasure adapted well to its new role and, in 1980, it earned designation on the National Register of Historic Places.

Theatre Albany produces a diverse and wide-ranging bill of fare, including popular Broadway plays and musicals, classic dramas, contemporary plays, and even original works. The theatre is celebrating its 75th year as a source of entertainment for the entire Southwest Georgia region.

*Best Production, Best Actor—1994; Best Production (2nd Place), Best Actor—1998 Georgia Theatre Conference Community Theatre Festival
