A musical Theatre Albany closes out its 75th Season with one of the most popular and successful musicals of all time, “Man of La Mancha.” The musical was the indisputable of the 1966-67 Broadway season, winning the New York Drama Critics Award and Tony Award for Best Musical, and went on to be mounted with success all over the world. The play opens in a 15th-century Spanish dungeon where a motley assortment of criminals and political prisoners are awaiting the judgement of the Inquisition. The newest arrivals is Miguel de Cervantes, idealist, poet and sometimes tax collector who has committed the unfortunate crime of dunning a monastery for its back taxes. Cervantes is immediately set upon and robbed by his fellow prisoners—but when his most precious possession, his immortal manuscript, is about to be fed to the fire, he agrees to submit to a “trial,” during which he must prove its value. And so he begins to act out the story of his hero, Don Quixote. We have a poignant story of a dying old man whose impossible dream takes over his mind. His dream is Everyman’s dream. His tilting at windmills is Everyman’s great adventure. Somehow, the footlights disappear, time is telescoped and the “Man of La Mancha” speaks for humankind. The Award winning score includes: "It’s All the Same", "Dulcinea", "I’m Only Thinking of Him", "I Really Like Him", "To Each His Dulcinea", "A Little Gossip, "Little Bird, Little Bird" and the international hit The "Impossible Dream". Theatre Albany’s production is headed by Robby Davis, Steve Strowbridge, Francie Michas, Chet Dreschel, Steve Kitchens, Morgan Carson, Letitia Rice, Gary Unger and Suzanne Unger. Rounding out the cast are Juan Alonso, Troy Barrett, Jacqueline Clark, John Coutu, Neal Hinnant, Will Knight, Jodie Kretzer, Kara Maples, Mark Mitchell, Eric Moore, Josh Muggridge, Colby Pines, Chris Tripp, Sam Widman, Travis Yearby. “Man of La Mancha”is
